his gem is a collaboration between native gold and quartz. From what I understand about the origin of this rough, according to my source, the mother rock was gifted to their parents by a friend back in the 1960s. The exchange took place in Oregon at the Prineville Rockhound Pow Wow. Through the years, tons of mineral specimens change hands at rock shows all around the western mining states. Since I didn't mine the rough this was cut from and didn't actually see it mined, it's impossible to say where it came from. My source said it's from Arkansas, but since so little gold production occurred there, this origin seems questionable. I do know this. It's unlike any California, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, British Columbian, or South American gold quartz I have seen or worked with. The cab offered here is a very colorful section yielded up by the first slab cut. I love the hard, grey and orange quartz accented with black mineralization. What appear to be open, black vugs have been sealed and polished. Ozark gold quartz? Well, for what it's worth, quartz is the state mineral, but gold-bearing quartz? I have only someone's word to back it up. It supposedly came from the Old Spanish Diggings. I believe Ontario, Canada is a likelier source. Wherever it's from, it's a pretty cab.
Turning our gem over, you'll see the backside is flat.

s the operator/sole proprietor of Gold of Eldorado, I actively mined gold for 18 years. Beginning long ago, perhaps in a past life, something in the mystique of this rare, precious, golden metal attracted me to it. Searching for Au (gold) and working with it in it's multitude of forms has become my life-way. However this happened is one of those wonderful mysteries which made my short walk of life here on planet Earth so amazing.
If you are a fan of gold quartz suitable for gemstone applications, please let me know if there are any specific sizes, colors, or cabochon-shapes you might be interested in. I may be able to accommodate you with a custom-made creation.

These will contain visible native gold and/or are composed almost entirely of gold (i.e. gold nuggets, gold flakes, wire gold specimens).

    GOLDEN TREASURES
    T
reasure's where you find it. Depending on what an individual needs, how much gold falls into your poke may not be the only measure of how rich your life was.
I viewed myself as a fair to middlin' prospector, but came to realize no one knows everything or is big enough to get it all. My own production paled in comparison with what other miners I knew recovered. A gold claim can be a tough nut to crack. Depending upon it's characteristics, a great many prevailing factors may limit how much one person equipped with basic tools can accomplish there. In terms of importance, having the right tools for the job is numero uno right behind authorization that's needed to legally mine any given property. That, in itself, trumps all else. During my 20 year mining career, while I learned plenty about placer formations, it was often impossible to learn how good a property was due both to lack of legal access and to not having the right tools for the job.
All things considered, for the amount of ground worked (a few hundred yards), almost all of it by hand or with suction dredges, the 200 oz. I recovered seemed like a decent-enough haul. That would equate to a lot of money on today's market, but it wasn't worth much back when placer-mining was my trade. I knew small-scale miners who found so much gold working only by hand methods you would not believe it. Truth be told, I spent way too much time digging 'hungry dirt'. Nonetheless, even one's failures can be rewarding. It's gratifying being able to tell yourself at the end of the day "at least I tried". If there's one lesson about gold prospecting a guy who's been there might pass on, it's "go where the gold is, not where it isn't".
Here again, let me emphasize that whatever degree of commercial success comes your way, be passionate about what you're doing and strive to get better. It's sad and surprising how many people choose to become 'loaf about the forts', defeatists, victims, and leaches. O.K. so at the beginning, you didn't have the same advantages others sometimes do. Hey, no one ever said life was fair! I say anyone can accomplish anything they set their minds to long as you work hard and have a positive attitude. In this life, attitude is everything. I say if you play your cards right, a pair of deuces can beat two pair any day.
