Description
Native Copper Crystals - Location: Ontonagonc Co.- Michigan. Miniature (see photo for more details). Here we have an attractive and interesting specimen of native copper crystals from the famous Michigan peninsula locality. The crystals form as 'distorted' but fairly sharp crystals with the crystals showing more complex crystal forms (copper crystals form in the cubic system). The crystals have a copper colored metallic luster. Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula is the most important locality in the world for pure native copper. Small amounts occur in several areas throughout the world. Mining operations began in 1845 and continued until 1968. During that time over 5 million tons of refined copper were recovered from Michigan's native copper mines. Near the turn of the century- Michigan led the world in copper production and "Lake Copper" was the purity standard to which other refined copper was compared. The copper occurs in various rock types and ranges in size from microscopic grains to large masses. The largest- discovered in 1857- weighed about 520 tons. For those people interested in the metaphysical aspects of copper- copper can stimulate the flow of energy and hence move Psychic or mental energies thereby helping the wearer overcome lethargic tendencies- resulting in a more vitalized person with amplified thoughts. Copper also attributes to powers of communication- channeling- cleansing- and purification- increasing self-esteem and freeing the wearer of mental burdens. People who believe in its power esteem it as a very powerful assistant with Arthritic and Rheumatic diseases- but also look to it for its healing properties in improving the circulation of blood- increasing energy- detoxification- reducing inflammation- stabilizing metabolism and improving Oxygen use.
