eatured quartz slug weighs 28.8 Grams and shows a nice exposure of gold in a seam measuring roughly 8 mm long. Twenty-four karat gold it's not because pure gold is never found in nature. 24 karat pure gold, or as close as metallurgists can come to it, is produced through refining. Gold found in the many mining districts around the world is a natural alloy of metals. The Gold inside this specimen is quite high in purity. The value isn't how much gold there is (in this piece) but in the fact that it's there. You'll see orange and brown oxidation stain coating this rock. My source indicates it's from the Sierra Nevada Mtns.
I don't sell low grade gold ores. I sell authentic, naturally-occurring gold quartz ores with visible gold. These high-grade beauties are hard to find and expensive to obtain. My prices are not based upon the amount of gold contained, but upon the authenticity, rarity and collectability of these unique specimens.

I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but I never found a piece with visible gold.
Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallized into veins of gold quartz. This specimen comes from one of the many gold-bearing vein systems filling the State of California.

STORIES FROM THE GOLDFIELDS
M
ost days a prospector ventures out, he doesn't see any gold, but ends up beat, dejected, and hungry anyway. Digging for gold takes an emotional and physical toll on a man. Whether swinging a pick-and-shovel or operating heavy equipment, nothing comes easy in this business. Trekking long distances on foot through mountains and deserts; hacking at clay banks, bedrock, and boulder packs; maybe you're someone who thrives on hard work. If that's the case, you've found your treasure already 'cos there's always a steady demand for it digging for gold.
Any gold found will just be icing on the cake. The fact is, a guy can't always load up his ATV or jeep and cruise down to the claim for a leisurely day digging up ounces. Truth be told, I can count my own oz plus days on two hands.
Having been a gold digger for eighteen years, there's no way to recall how many times I've been disappointed, beaten, ready to throw in the towel. One season, a guy is standing on a riverbank next to a roaring fire trying to thaw out, the next, he finds himself roasting in some torrid drywash out in the Sonoran desert.
Still, most people who pursue The Golden Fleece aren't sorry they made the effort. Sure, you're miserable much of the time, but that's just you paying your dues. Gold mining gets in your blood. Maybe you'll wind up at Season's End with something to rattle around in your poke. Perhaps you won't. Try it, you may like it.
One doesn't always get to impose his will on life, but in
becoming a prospector, I discovered an independent lifeway which fit like a glove (or wetsuit). There's no feeling in the world like the one you get when you find gold in some distant
place where no one else thought to look.   credit - G. Ralph
