    Description

Native Copper Nugget from Upper Michigan's "Copper Country" found near the historic Ahmeek Mine!. A fantastic copper nugget formation rich in golden copper color. A natural formation lightly tumbled to remove outer matrix and round the rough edges of the copper.
Piece weighs just over 2 pounds 2 ounces!
Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula is the most important locality in the world for pure native copper. Mining began in 1845 and continued until 1968 and over 5 million tons of refined copper was recovered from the mines. In the early 1900s it led the world in copper production and "Keweenaw Copper" was the purity standard to which other refined copper was compared. Long before the mining operations began in the past century, pre-historic people mined copper from the mineral rich veins. A great copper nugget specimen for display and will be the highlight of any collection!
